“Granting Permission: Working Together to Embrace Grief” June 3, 2026 10 am - 11:30 am Grief, unavoidable and often excruciating, is rarely sufficiently acknowledged or supported in Western society. It is not granted permission to exist without barriers. By considering and evaluating grief experiences through the lens of their access to permission, clinicians can collectively imagine and promote inclusivity in grief. Permission is presented as a conceptual framework and clinical tool, with broader micro- and macro-level applications for both professional and layperson engagement, offering a foundation for further implementation and research. Instructor: Rennie Bimman, MSW, is completing her Doctor of Philosophy - PhD in Social Work at McGill University. She is studying the intergenerational impact of pregnancy and infant loss under the supervision of Dr. Tamara Sussman. Ms. Bimman has published research in the Journal of Social Work in End-of-Life & Palliative Care. She currently works at Montreal Children's Hospital with an interdisciplinary team of healthcare professionals and artificial intelligence experts designing an educational platform for learning clinicians to build Serious Illness Communication skills. She presented "Hiding in Plain Sight: Perinatal Grief of Nonparental Relatives" at the Institute for Reproductive Grief Care Annual Symposium, San Diego, California, Mar 28, 2025.
